If the whole of europe saw the brexit conundrum as the opportunity to reshape to get to a better place, united, but valuing national debates and seeking resolution of the regional issues, whilst ditching extreme politics of the far right, yet knowing where we need to get to, we would all be eventually benefitting from this endless stalemate and roundabout circus of culdesac roads. If there was a dynamic equilibrium it might all resolve naturally but there are implicit structural economic drivers to instability and the rest. Unworkable ? Allowing simple economic forces to act that are skewed might worsen things for some. And complete free trade might not actually do much for us, it needs counterparts of similar ideology but everyone has home markets they wish to protect to some degree because cheap mass production can wipe out labour intensive crafts etc. If industry and job creation centralises to smaller regions as capitalist economic drivers usually dictate, there will be huge regional issues in huge continents. That’s probably the crux of the matter. Its one thing wanting to leave because its economically destroyed our jobs and economy, quite another when its generated huge numbers of jobs and grown the economy from the stale 70s. Getting bigger better partnerships might input to wider solutions with us united in it. Endless fragmentations are not any answer in my book based on assertions not backed up by economists nor the basic political facts of possible likely disintegration, and the only ones who would advocate a hard brexit are individual capitalists who might greatly gain. The bigger picture is important! We cant export to a collapsed region we indirectly helped collapse nor can we grow by inducing our own collapse. In the meantime growth drivers in vast already collapsing regions are needed, but we indeed have been endlessly growing!! What triggered this off was the credit crunch emanating from the American housing market passing on huge debts to our banks and the Euro crisis within EU nations who has falsified accounts but also a single currency does not assist in recovery of declining regional countries because they no longer benefit from collapsed currency values to assist recovery and can still borrow cheaply setting up a downward spiral of debt and non job creation. Imho. That said the eu is the biggest and most liberal minded and creative, peaceful and harmonious place.... in the world? So it’s got a lot right!! It just needs the right fix! To get it back to where it should be. Ultra capitalism might be financially and economically, in short terms, very creative, but it might and often is, socially and environmentally destructive, without good rules....
